THE BRAND PUTTER LEAGUE

Final League Position - The league ended in a close finish with only eight points separating the top five teams. Unfortunately Fereneze could not sustain the early good form and finished mid table in fifth postion, Cowglen proving worthy winners.

The Brand Putter League can trace it’s roots all the way back to 1947, when Bertie Brand who was secretary of Eastwood Golf club at the time, had the idea for a competition which would bring together clubs on the South side of Glasgow. Fereneze Golf Club is one of nine Clubs who play in the Brand Putter Leage, the other eight Clubs being : Cathcart Castle, Cathkin Braes, Cowglen, East Renfrewshire, Eastwood, Haggs Castle, Whitecaraigs and Williamwood. The League is played in May & June each year with the clubs playing against each other once for points allocated for an away win (6pts), home win (4pts), away draw (3pts) home draw (2pts). Each team comprises of eight players each in a singles Matchplay competition over 18 holes.

The competition is always fierce and (usually!) friendly. The top golfers from each club are usually in the team with the handicaps almost always being 4 or below.  If you want to see good golfers in a truly competitive situation go along and watch a match.

Fereneze have won the League 9 times, the last win being in 2005, and are the only club to win the League three years in succession.
